A montage style oil of “Solo” is one of my projects underway. She is a multi-talented English Springer Spaniel, with show Champion, Master Hunter, Obedience, Agility and Tracking titles. It’s nice to be able to include different aspects of a dog with a montage.
Arranging the layout is a challenge with montage portraits, to work out a composition that fits in the various scenes. Usually there’s one main element made larger, often a head study, that “anchors” the portrait. This one has it’s first thin layer of paint done, so the colors are pretty basic and flat.
